Horizon Point emerged in 2021 in Modesto, California in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Jen and Jordan Waters formed the band after playing together as an acoustic duo for many years. They were sick of performing at the same local wine bars every weekend, singing cover songs that didn’t reflect their true musical calling. This left Jen and Jordan feeling unfulfilled as songwriters and artists. The shutdown inspired them to reclaim their punk rock roots and strive towards greater authenticity in their music. Horizon Point was born! The band includes Jen Waters (vocals/sax), Jordan Waters (vocals/guitar), Raul Ontiveros (trombone), Adam Castellanos (drums), and Blake Boetto (bass). All members co-collaborate in the songwriting process, and are multi-instrumentalists, making Horizon Point a truly unique and dynamic group. The band has worked diligently to gain recognition in their local and regional scenes, winning “Best Punk Artist” at the Modesto Area Music Awards in 2023, and have now been signed to Manic Kat Records. Horizon Point’s self-proclaimed genre of “sad ska” fuses catchy horn lines and off-beat rhythms of American ska-punk, with melancholy lyrics, themes of heartbreak and resilience, and a sprinkle of angst. The band’s multi-genre songs blend punk, emo, and ska together in a way that is fresh, bold, and punchy. The songs comment on modern social problems, giving a voice to those who are oppressed, unseen, and experiencing invisible struggles in today’s world.
