Hugo S. Simões hails from a small island along the Mid-Atlantic ridge and came up through gigging in the Lisbon folk scene, sharing his songs one crowded basement at a time. Since then, he’s been at work writing, recording and performing throughout Europe, showcasing work that balances warmth, grit, and quiet intensity with lyrics that merge an ear for melody with his background as a poet and writer. Think of the tradition that artists like Fred Neil and Tim Hardin drew on, with his own original twist. In 2025 he released his first single To Keep Away the Blues on local label Cheap Wine Records, recently followed by My Thoughts Know No Bounds, which has had airplay on national public radio back home and made the rounds abroad. Both releases are leading up to his debut album currently in the works.
