Hugo Tanov is an artist, producer, and trumpet player based in Los Angeles, CA. His music draws heavily from 1970s Soul with the likes of Marvin Gaye, Donny Hathaway, and The Spinners, while hinting at Neo Soul and Jazz tendencies. Horn and vocal arrangements are at the forefront of Hugo’s tracks supported by feel good grooves in the rhythm section. Raised in the fertile music scene of the San Francisco Bay Area, Hugo grew up playing gigs around the Bay Area with his father, singer songwriter Steven Emerson, playing jazz standards and developing his ear. By the age of 12 he was playing drums, trumpet and keyboards at small gigs. Around the same time, his father gifted him a laptop with Logic Pro which sparked his lifelong producing and songwriting journey. Hugo attended the renowned Oakland School for the Arts for High School where he played second chair trumpet in the Big Band before heading off to CalArts where he received his Bachelors in jazz studies.
