A homegrown, underground deep house artist.
House producer and vinyl junkie Hunee (Hun Choi) cultivates deep, sunny grooves with a clear reverence for Chicago and Detroit house as well as disco, jazz, and dub influences. On his 2015 full-length Hunch Music and various singles, he constructs free-form house tracks laced with unconventional samples and scruffy melodies. Equally well-regarded as a DJ, he has a unique way of uncovering a common thread within a disparate selection of records, and his 2018 unmixed compilation Hunchin' All Night demonstrates his eclectic range. Choi grew up in Bochum, West Germany, and moved to Berlin at age 19. After getting a job at a record store in the city, he established himself as a DJ before turning his hand to production. He made his vinyl debut in 2009 with a series of 12"s on labels such as Internasjonal and W.T. Records. Amsterdam-based dance label Rush Hour signed Hunee in 2010, releasing the Bobos Alone in Paradise EP that year, followed by "Tide"/"Minnoch" in 2012. After a brief stint in Los Angeles, during which he recorded his debut album, Choi moved to Amsterdam. Rush Hour released his full-length debut, Hunch Music, in June 2015. A 12" of Hunch Music Remixes by Mick Wills and DJ Fett Burger followed in 2016. Hunchin' All Night, an unmixed compilation of disco, techno, house, and African tracks selected by Hunee, was released by Rush Hour in 2018. ~ Paul Simpson, Rovi
