IN COVERT

In Covert navigate decay, dread, and the strange beauty in between-late-night fog music for the end of the world. Beneath the neon haze of Los Angeles, In Covert was formed in 2019 by guitarist/ synth Wes Lopez as an outlet for ambient loops and drone experiments. By late 2022, Wes reconnected with long-time collaborator drummer Oscar Ruvalcaba (The Warlocks, All Your Sisters). In 2023, the addition of vocalist Kris Balocca (Phaeic) with range, fury, and magnetic presence, In Covert found its voice. Rounding out the live lineup in 2024 with bassist Victor Gutierrez (Phaeic). Describing In Covert’s style is like trying to catalog a fever dream. It’s part Deathrock, Industrial Metal, Post- Punk, and Shoegaze filtered through a VHS tape of X-Files and scored by Godflesh and The Cure. Touchstones range from Christian Death to Ministry, from Celtic Frost to My Bloody Valentine. Add to that a love of ‘70s-’90s horror and sci-fi films. Hellraiser, The Crow, Blood Cult, Return of the Living Dead. The band crafts bleak, immersive music with a cinematic edge. Lyrically, Kris pulls no punches: themes of overstimulation, grief, capitalist collapse, and A.I.-era existential dread rise to the surface in every howl. In Covert’s debut album, Bleak Machinery, was recorded at Moonpalace and Paradise Recorders with engineer Chris King (Cold Showers, Kai Tak). With the single Nowhere to Turn, dropping April 10th and Bleak Machinery due May 9th on Dune Altar, with upcoming West Coast dates.
