An underground experimental artist from the local scene.
Jena Jang is a South Korean audiovisual artist based in Prague, Czechia, working actively across Europe and Asia. Their work focuses on trauma healing through sound, using elements such as harsh noise, power electronics, drone, chanting, and intense screaming for emotional release. They often perform with the Tupperwave Synthesiser, a handmade, recycled instrument, and create other DIY devices inspired by healing music and rituals from various cultures. These concepts are central to their ongoing PhD project, "Contemporary Art of Healing," which explores how experimental sound can transform trauma. They describe their sound as "Necrocore," a form of sonic medicine that channels pain into power through raw, cathartic performances. Their work blends Buddhist chanting, yogic breathwork, throat singing, pansori, samulnori, and Korean shamanic rituals into an experience that is both ghostly and healing. Their performances are not just music; they are rituals of energetic cleansing for both the artist and audience. Recent achievements include a notable set at Cafe OTO in London, organised by Chinabot, featuring Saadet Türköz. They also created a mix for Radio Alhara, which aired on Radio Lora, Zurich. In 2024, they will participate in a residency at MeetFactory in the Czech Republic, alongside bela (DE/KR) and Mvd0ae (MX/CZ). In 2023, they performed at Ars Electronica in Linz with Udasi (FI) and Mia Zabelka (AT) for the Contingent Snapshot programme. https://jenajang.com/
