An underground, nostalgic progressive rock act.
Johnny Bob is a Progressive Rock Band from Hamburg. The group’s style is based on genre idols such as Genesis (Peter Gabriel era), early King Crimson or Marillion. The debut album "Carnival of the Brahma-Sox" was released in 2017 and ensured initial success. The second album "Fjodor and the Water Giant" followed in April 2019 and Johnny Bob were showered with praise from the ProgRock scene. The 4-track EP "Hunted by a Caproid" saw its light of day in January 2020. The brothers Jörg Purfürst (bass, keyboards, guitar) and Carsten Díaz (voice, guitar) form the core of the band. Since August 2019 Díaz replaces former singer Peter Piek. Line-up is completed by Philip Mestwerdt (drums) and Jan Brust (guitar, keyboards). The lyrics of the songs are mostly bizarre stories which contain sociocritical metaphors, told / performed by Díaz who tends to roguery by tirelessly altering the history of the band in interviews and on stage, so that truth and fiction merge here. In September 2020 the band releases their 3rd album „Egbert’s Barber Shop“ which contains eight tracks with a running time of 45 minutes. The album is produced/mixed by Jörg Purfürst and mastered by Ulf Nagel.
