Julia Mandoki
Julia Mandoki is a walking closet of archetypes. Songwriting so deeply, coping with life as a polymath, Julia grew into a sound that bends between alt-pop directness and psychedelic-folk. She records everything herself — raw takes, vintage moods, minimal polish. Living with a neurodiverse mind and long bored by patriarchy, she writes toward radical vulnerability and unorthodox honesty. A pond of strange matter and good hope. After more than a decade on the road with international artists like Albert Hammond and Richard Bona, Julia settled in Amsterdam to turn inward — working in abortion care and woman's right advocacy by day, and carving out songs at night. Her debut album, The Dark Side of the Womb (out November 28, 2025), is a true concept record digging into gender oppression, mental health, and animism. Independent and unpolished, its B-side collects one-takes that capture the lost female Syd Barrett she carries inside. Musically she lives between whimsical folk and alt-pop edge, echoing freak-folk spirits like Jessica Pratt, Linda Perhacs, and Aldous Harding. With a love for surrealism and bedroom imperfections, the Amsterdam-based artist turns broken one-takes, folklore scales, and big vocal stacks into something that feels both familiar and entirely her own. “My songs are like houses. In each of these houses lives another women. My music knows me better than anyone.”
