Songwriter, musician, visual artist and film composer Kat Burns makes thought-provoking, melodic ‘folkpoptronica’ as KASHKA. Based in Toronto, Burns blurs a line between folk, pop and found-sounds. Starting out in the in the mid 2000s Toronto music scene with her first band Forest City Lovers, Burns, alongside contemporaries such as Ohbijou, Evening Hymns, Owen Pallett, Gentleman Reg, Hannah Georgas , Tokyo Police Club -gained momentum touring across Canada, the USA and Europe, enchanting intimate audiences. Burns started KASHKA in 2013 with an experimental pop collection titled 'Vichada' with producer James Bunton. Since then she has leaned into her 'folkpoptronica' title bestowed upon her music in an early review, releasing and touring several albums and EPs. Leaning into textures akin to Broadcast, Aldous Harding and Cat Power, her latest offering, Soft, is an exploration into the underbelly of loneliness and hope. Fans of Kevin Morby, Feist and Angel Olsen will appreciate the melodies and lyrical prowess across the KASHKA catalogue.
