An underground, polished dub techno artist.
Japanese native Maiko Okimoto (Lemna) is an electronic music composer based in Tochigi, Japan. Maiko began her musical journey with classical piano at 4 & composing music at 14. After being in bands as a vocalist playing a variety of instruments including guitar, bass, saxophone & keyboards, she began to take an interest in acoustics. After she studied sound engineering at the academy, she began to experiment with production while performing as MC/singer for D&B DJs in Tokyo. Stylistically starting as D&B hybrids, her music grew into a robust, unique sound, equal parts ambient & techno with a rhythmically experimental approach defining the bulk of her work. Ever since she debuted her 1st live performance at Berlin Atonal in 2017, she has given audiences one-off performances composed of only newly-written music to value the ephemeral freshness which has honed her approach to music making. Maiko tells a story with music, seeking to find out the beautiful ratio to frame the moment of a constantly changing dynamic world on a time axis, while hovering between regularity & irregularity, such as order & chaos, artifact & nature, intellect & emotion, or conscious & subconscious. She now works on a broad range of projects including music production for exhibition/installation, collaborative work with performing arts, visual arts, or 2D/3D arts with her unique music incorporating organic soundscapes & expresses her world not only by music but also artwork & video production.
Lemna plays hypnotic dub techno and immersive ambient music, blending organic soundscapes with rhythmically experimental electronic production.
Lemna is the project of Japanese electronic composer and sound designer Maiko Okimoto, based in Japan.
