New York-based songwriter Lily DeTaeye kicks off this fall with the September release of her first single since 2023, the weary “Maybe It’s November.” It’s one of her most affecting lyrical offerings yet, not searching for an answer but conveying her pain with precision enough to elicit from listeners an empathetic “yeah, I’ve been there.” “Maybe It’s November” precedes the forthcoming release of DeTaeye’s first live album (due Nov. 21), Studio 3 Live at Iowa PBS. The 14-song performance, recorded in late 2024, presents DeTaeye in a different context when compared to her studio releases, which tend toward pristine, celestial atmospheres. The live album, by contrast, is DeTaeye in a much rawer form — and perhaps her most honest.
Lily DeTaeye plays folk-pop and alt-folk, blending introspective lyrics with both pristine studio production and raw live acoustic performances.
She is originally from Des Moines, Iowa, and is currently based in Brooklyn, New York.
