If you are unfamiliar with the word, a 'wraith is a mythical term used to describe a ghost or spirit, something that is 'undead' or caught in the inbetween. A wraith haunts the living with its pain and its unfinished business. It cloaks you in darkness, and attempts to steal away your light. "Wraiths in the Wake" embodies the idea of unseen presences trailing us, persistent and burdensome. These nine songs were born in the aftermath of great personal tragedy. To witness death in any of its various forms will forever change you. Betrayal, estrangement, the loss of a pregnancy... In this story I became a Mother who had lost, a sister who had lost, a daughter who had lost..And in summation, a woman who lost herself. How do we forgive others? How do we forgive ourselves? I know these things are heavy, and it feels vulnerable to share even now, but I know I'm not alone. And so perhaps you will find yourselves in the arc and emotion of this record... Haven't we all wrestled with ourselves in desperation trying to make it all make sense or when we believe that something can be undone... when it in truth cannot. But through it all, I have learned that there is a path to peace that can be found through the acceptance of our suffering. That in wake of tragedy, a great light can also be found. May we all have the courage to confront the dark shadows in our wake, to meet them with compassion, and to let them go when we must.
