Lowswimmer
Where Ed Tullett’s career to-date has been defined by the people working alongside him, his new album under the Lowswimmer moniker lives and breathes as the opposite. Through his work as one half of Hailaker, Lissom and Tolari, and as chief writer for Novo Amor, his vision has been beautifully blurred, a weaving of ideas that has led to a huge body of collaborative work. Godspeed, Fantasy, a brand new collection of songs, thrives within its self-imposed confines. Mostly written in isolation, very much a product of his own intention, it’s a melodically rich, ambitious and euphoric collection of songs. Featuring eleven new tracks, all of which were predominantly written in Ableton, Godspeed, Fantasy is brought to life through digital tricks and experimental synths. Occasionally reaching outside of those walls, Ed asked just a handful of friends to add dashes of strings, saxophone, trombone, trumpet and drums, organic instruments that allow a small crack of light in, illuminating the ground between the acoustic and the electronic. The result is an album that feels invigorating in its wide-eyed optimism, like a purging of shackles that weren’t obviously suffocating until the freedom from such a thing was noticed in the quiet aftermath. In its diverse array of sounds and sentiments, in its quietly intense display of unlocking, Godspeed, Fantasy is a unique and towering artistic expression brought beautifully to life.
