Vienna-born pianist Lukas Sternath (b. 2001) has rapidly emerged as one of the most exciting young artists of his generation. He first gained international attention by winning First Prize and seven special prizes at the 2022 ARD International Music Competition in Munich, before being named an ECHO Rising Star for 2024/25 and a BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist through 2027. Highlights of recent seasons include his BBC Proms debut with the BBC Symphony Orchestra under Sakari Oramo, his Vienna Philharmonic debut with Tugan Sokhiev, and the launch of the Lukas Sternath Cycle at Vienna’s Musikverein—the first artist-curated series of its kind in the venue’s history. In 2026, he was also awarded the prestigious Terence Judd-Hallé Award. Sternath has appeared at many of the world’s leading concert halls and festivals, including the Elbphilharmonie, Wigmore Hall, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Lucerne Festival, and Carnegie Hall’s Weill Hall, while performing with orchestras such as the Vienna Symphony, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Munich Philharmonic, and Mahler Chamber Orchestra. A former member of the Vienna Boys’ Choir, he studied in Vienna before completing his master’s degree in Hanover under Igor Levit and Paul Lewis. His debut album, featuring works by Liszt and Schubert, will be released on the NO SILENCE label in 2026. A Steinway Artist, Sternath is based in Vienna.
