An underground progressive metal act.
A free spirit of the French metal scene, Mantra has pushed the boundaries of progressive music for more than a decade. Known for its immersive concept albums and ritualistic live performances, the band has gradually transcended genre conventions, blending sound, visuals, and even contemporary dance to create fully immersive, multisensory experiences. Mantra has earned a reputation for its singular universe and constant reinvention. Their 2016 album LANIAKEA left a lasting impression by intertwining brutality and tenderness in a prehistoric narrative exploring the dawn of civilization. In 2019, the band returned with MEDIUM, a bold exploration of the mind-body duality. The album consists of two independent 17-minute tracks that, when played together, form a third composition: the symbolic harmony of body and mind. In 2025, Mantra unveils CELESTIAL, a new chapter picking up where LANIAKEA left off. This philosophical tale delves into humanity’s loneliness in the face of civilizational collapse, a meditation on the role of art in a world stripped of meaning. Structured as a four-part cycle (Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer), the album unfolds across four vinyl sides, each representing a season and a chapter of the CELESTIAL story. Unveiled at Hellfest 2025, CELESTIAL comes to life on stage through a unique performance featuring dancer and performer Melvin Coppalle, cementing Mantra’s commitment to breaking artistic boundaries.
