An underground indie rock artist.
Marie April is a Czech-American singer-songwriter and guitarist based in Prague. Her involvement with music dates back to her preschool years, when she accompanied her father to guitar lessons and eventually ended up with an old violin from the basement, which led to years of classical training. In her teens, she began writing her own music and formed the seven-piece band Marie April & The Fools. Her music draws from soul, rock, R&B and alternative pop, combining expressive musicianship with raw, emotionally honest songwriting. Inspired by artists such as Adele, Childish Gambino, Frank Ocean and Dijon, she explores her complicated childhood, grief, heartbreak and the search for identity through a sound that leaves room for both vulnerability and improvisation. Her debut album, tangerines, released in 2025, earned her the title of Best New Artist at the Czech Anděl Awards.
Marie April plays an eclectic blend of indie rock, soul, and alternative pop, highlighted by rich brass arrangements and emotional lyricism on her debut album tangerines.
Marie April is based in Prague, where she writes and performs with her backing band, Marie April & The Fools.
