Mariem Hassan

Mariem Hassan is the indisputable voice of Western Sahara. One of the greatest North-African singer of the XXI Century. She was gifted with a powerful stage presence and mastered singing “a capella” like nobody else. She bravely approached unimaginable challenges that shaped her recordings and made her play around the whole world. She did it always in the service of her People whilst enduring a long and final fight with cancer detected when she was recording her first solo album. She took her first steps as a singer very young in clandestine meetings in the Spanish Sahara. In one of her first performances, she had to run through a window when the Spanish police arrived. Her professional career started when she joined the group “Mártir Luali”, which fundamental mission was to raise awareness about the tragic situation of the Sahrawi people after the Moroccan invasion.
