Matthew Payne

Combine Townes Van Zandt with Jimmie Rodgers and the Carter Family, and somewhere in the middle maybe, you’ll find Matthew Payne. Matthew Payne grew up in the beautiful hill country surrounding Dripping Springs, and worked as an educator in Austin for almost two decades. He taught high school English and Creative Writing, and loved every minute of it. He's spent his life listening to all the great Texas songwriters and seeks to honor that tradition, the poetry of the land, and the people he’s met along the way in his own writing.
