Maya Homburger is a baroque violinist whose work brings historical performance into dialogue with contemporary composition and improvisation. After moving to England, she performed with early music ensembles and became one of the leaders of John Eliot Gardiner’s English Baroque Soloists. Her meeting with bassist and composer Barry Guy during a 1988 tour with the Academy of Ancient Music led to a long-standing duo exploring Baroque solo music, new commissions and free improvisation. Her recordings include Biber’s Mystery Sonatas and Bach’s Sonatas and Partitas alongside Guy’s solo violin works. She runs Maya Recordings and performs on historical violins as well as a modern instrument by Stefan-Peter Greiner.
