An underground, raw lo-fi indie artist.
Melaina Kol, the alias of Nashville-based musician Logan Hornyak, is an ever-changing project. For his new record, Okay that’s a great idea because if I do that then, arriving via Julia’s War Recordings, Hornyak wanted to fuse his long-time enjoyment of classical music with his interest in ambient and house music, creating an album that took the approach of electronic music using organic sounds. Deciding to teach himself cello and harp and returning to his childhood piano training, on ‘Okay that’s a great idea…’ classical instruments are chopped, looped and layered around a rhythmic pulse. The effect can be disorienting and uncentering, but disarmingly beautiful at the same time.
Melaina Kol plays lo-fi indie and slowcore infused with ambient textures and chopped classical instruments, released via Julia's War Recordings.
Melaina Kol is originally from Youngsville, North Carolina, and is currently based in Nashville, Tennessee.
