Haydée Mercedes Sosa (San Miguel de Tucumán, 9 de Julio de 1935-Buenos Aires, 4 de octubre de 2009). Se definía a sí misma como "cantora" antes que "cantante". Es considerada como la mayor exponente del folklore latinoamericano. Se la conoció como "la voz de América Latina". Cofundadora del "Movimiento del Nuevo Cancionero". Incursionó en diversos géneros como el tango, el rock y el pop. Entre sus discos se destacaron "Canciones con fundamento", "Homenaje a Violeta Parra" y "Cantora" (álbum doble que interpretó 34 canciones a dúo). Ha ganado seis premios Grammy Latinos (2000, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2009, 2011), incluyendo el Premio a la Trayectoria en 2004 y dos Premios póstumos en 2009 y 2011. She gave voice to songs written by many Latin American songwriters and her music made people hail her as the "voice of the voiceless ones". Mercedes performed in theaters such as the Lincoln Center in NY, the Théâtre Mogador in Paris and the Sistine Chapel in Vatican City, as well as sell-out shows in New York's Carnegie Hall and the Roman Colosseum. Her career spanned four decades and she has won six Latin Grammy awards (2000, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2009, 2011), including a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004 and two posthumous award for Best Folk Album in 2009 and 2011.
