Moa are endemic birds of New Zealand — the largest birds ever to have walked the Earth. They inhabited the islands until the arrival of the first humans. The history of these creatures became a symbolic inspiration for the duo Moa Tears, whose work is imbued with the wildness of nature, the harshness of the world, and the complexity of human existence. The project was founded in 2022 by Mari — a charismatic vocalist and songwriter born in West Virginia — and Adrian, a Polish drummer and composer. Fascinated by the sounds of indigenous musical traditions, they began creating their own blend of indie, alternative rock and organic, ethnic-inspired influences. The duo is currently based in Wrocław, Poland, where their sound continues to evolve. In May 2025, Moa Tears officially announced their existence. On March 31, 2026, their debut single “Silent River” was released, marking the announcement of their debut EP, “The Sun Makes a Shadow,” which came out on April 30, 2026. They work and compose as a duo, while for live performances they expand their lineup with close collaborating musicians. Together, they create an intense, mysterious atmosphere on stage, reaching an ever-growing audience.
