An underground downtempo act.
When MothBreath dropped their first single, ‘Drift Away’, BBC Introducing called it, “A sublime beauty of a song - part beats, part shoegaze. A woozily intoxicating, fully immersive, big headphones clamped to the side of your head earworm of a tune.” They released their first album ‘mothbreath’ in May 2024. Characterised by Kirsty’s rich voice and multi-layered vocal style weaving between John’s echo drenched guitars, their debut earned critical acclaim for their ability to blend introspective, soulful melodies with expansive, atmospheric soundscapes. The duo ushered in 2025 with the singles ‘Brand New’, ‘Freedom Machine’ , ‘Weightless Words’ and ‘Misty Blue’. Their latest single 'Nothing Will Stay The Same' is their first of 2026 and part of a second album which will be fuly released at the end of the year. MothBreath’s influences are wide and varied, but describe their sound as a melding of the vaporous, atmospheric textures of Dream Pop, underpinned with a Down Tempo, Trip-Hop aesthetic. Along the way anything else is up for grabs, from Post-Punk to Electronica, to produce a sound that is distinctively their own.
