A nostalgic soul artist.
Nicole Bernegger is an eight-piece soul family, an electrifying voice - it's Indie and Americana Soul made in Switzerland. «Alchemy» (11/25), the third album on their own label, features 10 tracks ranging from heartfelt ballads to psychedelic soundscapes and catchy soul tunes, all steeped in an earthy 60s/70s vibe. The Basel-based collective has captured the energy of their live shows, creating a tribute to the power of music and to the band itself, which—like alchemists—has been refining its sound for eight years. Their aesthetic fits alongside international artists such as Leon Bridges, The Altons, Michael Kiwanuka, The Red Clay Strays, Jeremie Albino or Khruangbin. “You’re an alchemist turning gray days into gold …” says the titletrack, celebrating togetherness and the strength we give each other in an increasingly cruel world. Considered one of Switzerland’s great soul voices, Nicole Bernegger has earned awards, gold records, TV appearances and countless concerts. Today she is more herself than ever, embodied by an eight-member soul family: Nicole Bernegger (vocals), Marco Nenniger (bass), Florian Haas Schneider (drums), Stefan Strittmatter (guitar), Yves de Groot (keys), Nza Smith (backing vocals), Steffi Klär (backing vocals) and Stu Huber (sound). They are longtime pillars of the Basel scene, known from acts such as La Nefera, Kings Elliot, Ilira, Audiodope, Sandro P, Famara, Fido Plays Zappa and Universe by Ear.
