Nik Parr & The Selfless Lovers
Born and raised in the Gulf Coast town of Corpus Christi, Nik Parr is bringing a new energy to an old tradition, Texas Rock n' Roll. Self taught on piano, Nik never read sheet music, and instead, was drawn to the larger than life stage presence of greats like Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, Dr. John, and Ray Charles. Nik's dad, also a self-taught piano player, showed Nik how to use his ear to "hear out," notes and introduced him to his love for rock n' roll; bands like The Rolling Stones, ZZ Top, The Grateful Dead. At age 17, Nik moved to Austin and cut his teeth in the local music scene, bringing his saxophone (and fake ID) out to blues clubs on the East Side. There, Nik played with many of the local legends and fell in love with soul, funk, r&b and blues. By day, Nik was barely passing business school, and by night he was learning the ropes of being a pro sax player. Fast forward to 2018, Nik quit his day job and went full in on his band "Nik Parr & The Selfless Lovers.'' For years, he handled his bookings, pretending to be his own agent, and worked odd jobs to make ends meet. By 2021, Nik had built his band to a touring success with over 150 live shows per year. As of 2024, Nik has shared the stage with many of the major acts in roots music: Marc Broussard, Black Joe Lewis, The Suffers, Rebirth Brass Band, The Soul Rebels, GA 20, Big Sam's Funky Nation, Chapel Hart. He is currently finishing his EP "American Lover Boy," produced by Low Cut Connie.
