Oláh Krisztián Quartet

Breaking through to the surface in compositions whose mature sound belies his youth and via the expressive means of jazz are all the musical inspirations that allude to the legacy of European classical music from the past centuries. Thanks to the wonderful improvisational skills of his companions, Kálmán Oláh jr. (sax.), Marcell Gyányi (bass) and Dániel Serei (drums), the audience can look forward to plenty of deep musical connection and artistic improvisation. Krisztián graduated from the Béla Bartók Conservatory in classical piano major and later completed his studies at the jazz piano department of the Franz Liszt University of Music. At the same institution, he also earned degrees in applied composition and classical composition, studying with the great composer, Péter Tornyai. He was only 19, when he finished third at the 2015 Montreux Jazz Festival. In 2018 he was the first Hungarian to be invited to the international competition that the American Thelonious Monk Institute organized for the world’s best fourteen jazz pianists. The music of his first album as a leader, At The Back Of My Mind grew out of his U.S. experiences., followed by Crescendo and Music for 24/7 , which are both important milestones in his artistry, as he and his compositions turn from impulsivity to consciousness. He is currently in the process of recording the 4th album for his Quartet, titled Perspectives of Verve, coming out in 2025.
