An underground jazz artist.
Orson Claeys is a Belgian jazz pianist and composer who has rapidly emerged as one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary jazz. Combining a strong artistic vision with a refined compositional approach, he blends modern jazz with influences from hip-hop, Middle Eastern music, and R&B. His music moves fluidly between introspective melodies, layered rhythms, and adventurous improvisation, always guided by a strong sense of atmosphere and storytelling. After studying at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, Claeys quickly established himself within the Belgian jazz scene. Less than a year after graduating, he signed with Sdban Ultra, further accelerating his artistic development. Over the past two years, Claeys has become one of the most promising new artists in Belgian jazz. Following the release of his debut EP, Odyssey to Self, in 2024, he performed at leading venues and festivals including Ancienne Belgique, De Roma, Gent Jazz, Flagey, Leuven Jazz, and Lotto Brussels Jazz Weekend. Along the way, he was selected for Brussels Jazz Alert and the Klara Twintigers programme, featured on Lefto Presents Jazz Cats, and received the jury prize at the inaugural Brussels Jazz Vanguard. His long-awaited debut album is set for release later this year, bringing together the musical ideas and influences that have shaped his work in recent years.
Orson Claeys plays contemporary jazz, blending acoustic piano improvisation with hip-hop beats and Middle Eastern melodic influences.
