An underground free jazz act.
OSMIUM is a collaboration between Oscar-winning composer Hildur Guðnadóttir, vocalist Rully Shabara of Senyawa, musician James Ginzburg of Emptyset, and Grammy-winning composer and sound designer Sam Slater. OSMIUM performs using augmented, custom-made acoustic instruments, lathered in distortion and electronic manipulation. Primordial growls, harsh breathing, and pre-lingual utterances sputter out across vicious distortion, industrial drones, and metallic, percussive noise. Nothing else comes close to sounding like the gripping, infernal music of OSMIUM. Despite eliciting a sense of horror and dread, their improvisations are compelling; these morbid machinations of undeniable dynamism and strength must be heard to be understood. Arriving like an ominous vapour rising out of the soil from some unfathomable place beneath, OSMIUM’s dungeon electroacoustics reveal harrowed histories and prophesize catastrophic futures.
OSMIUM plays ritualistic electro-mechanical metal and dungeon electroacoustics, blending industrial drones, free jazz improvisation, and custom-built acoustic instruments released on Invada Records.
