Safejas

safejas is the alias of Berlin-based artist Lewis Shields, whose work moves through the porous borders of ambient music, deconstructed club forms, and delicate sound design. His productions blur the line between emotional weight and rhythmic tactility, carving out a singular musical language all his own. His 2020 debut EP Silk introduced a distinct voice in experimental electronics, earning support from BBC Radio 6, KEXP, DJ Mag, and Bandcamp. On his latest EP max power (2025), he refines his approach further - drawing on years of live set development to craft four tracks. From the submerged invocation of “aui” to the dubbed-out haze of “kinda wanna know,” the record is built for dancers and late-night thinkers alike. It’s music that explores space, decay, and resonance - club music in soft focus. Beyond releases, Shields has scored short films for Nitehawk Cinema (NYC) and Kaboom Festival (Amsterdam) in collaboration with Sophie Koko Gate, and composed installation work for Reverse Engineering (Berlin), including Music for Estranged Speakers, an experiment in spatial dialogue and panned sonic narratives. Live, Safejas has performed alongside seminal artists like Tourist, Iglooghost, Squid, Weval and Gaika, including a Boiler Room set in 2021
