A nostalgic, underground gregorian chant artist.
It may seem an odd mixture at first sight, but my two main musical loves are vintage cabaret songs from the 1930s and 40s, and the ecstatic, soaring melodies of the 12th century abbess, Hildegard von Bingen. Since 2020, I have been composing my own music, inspired by and containing Hildegard's chants, and here on Spotify you will find my new EP Precious Hope alongside the CD "Weill Times - a Black Tango" that features Kurt Weill songs recorded with a 5-piece jazz-classical crossover band called Kurt and the Sophisticated Lady. With thanks to Ridha Ben Hmouda for the beautiful photos.
Penelope Turner performs classical and early music, uniquely bridging 12th-century Gregorian chants with vintage 1930s and 40s cabaret.
