Philippe Cohen Solal
For over three decades now, Philippe Cohen Solal has made his mark as an architect of electronic music and a self-taught composer, having worked in many different areas of music production: from A&R to film scores, DJing and record making. He discovered Keziah Jones and introduced Zazie to Mercury, before founding his own Ya Basta Records label in 1996, where he signed Féloche, David Walters and El Hijo de la Cumbia. He co-founded Gotan Project, an ambitious balance between electronic music and tango. Philippe also collaborated with Salif Keita, Angélique Kidjo, CharlElie Couture, Horace Andy, Chassol, Adrien Brody, Roberto Fonseca, Laurent Voulzy, Camelia Jordana, Judith Chemla, Manu Dibango, Bobby McFerrin, Pierre Henry... In 2021, he releases the album and transmedia project OUTSIDER, inspired by the American raw artist Henry Darger, which is celebrated by the international press. Then, in 2022, The Human Seasons, an exercise in piano improvisations with Argentine maestro Gustavo Beytelmann. After releasing the Class Of 89 EP with Keziah Jones in 2023, and composing the original music for the TANGO y TANGO show, he released his new album 75010 in 2024, with the mission of creating global music with a hyper-local scene, namely his neighborhood, the 10th arrondissement of Paris. A deluxe edition of 75010 will be released on May 23, 2025.
