Raphael Weinroth-Browne

Internationally renowned Canadian cellist and composer Raphael Weinroth- Browne has been celebrated for his emotive and virtuosic playing on stage and in the studio. Combining a passion for progressive metal and Middle Eastern music, he has developed a creative signature that defies traditional expectations of how the cello should sound. He has played on over 200 studio albums (including Woods of Ypres’ Juno award-winning W5: Grey Skies & Electric Light), appeared on major film and TV soundtracks, performed in front of over 40,000 people on the main stage at Hellfest, and made viral YouTube covers of prog and metal songs which were praised and reposted by the likes of Opeth, Steven Wilson, and Katatonia. In 2016, Raphael was recruited by Norwegian progressive rock icons Leprous. His cello has since been featured prominently on three of the band's albums and he has played over 200 shows with them in Europe, North America, and the Middle East. In 2020, Raphael’s debut solo album, Worlds Within — a 40-minute composition created entirely on cello — was released to critical acclaim. In 2022, he performed with Leprous at London’s legendary Royal Albert Hall and appeared on opening slots for rock heavyweights Evanescence, Devin Townsend, and Apocalyptica. 2025 will see Raphael release the long-awaited follow up to Worlds Within.
