Born in Caracas, the Venezuelan artist Rebecca Roger Cruz deploys an unique landscape at the confluence of ancient, traditional, collective, improvised and experimental music. (Afro)Venezuelan percussion, ancestral rites of Barlovento, Latin American popular song, baroque, lyrical, jazz, rock or flamenco repertoire... So many influences which, sedimented by a river, give substance to its singularity. In the delta of everything that constitutes her, Rebecca Roger Cruz today unveils her first solo album Río Abajo, after having distinguished herself within the groups such as AA’IN, Parranda La Cruz or MAAAR. With her shapeshifting voice, Rebecca prances from bird songs to poetic incantations imbued with magical realism, experimenting with the sources and textures of sound. Deeply linked to the elements, on stage the musician invites seeds, strings and bamboo to her percussive trance, orchestrating a live ceremony from which the forces of nature emerge.
