An underground contemporary classical artist.
Virtuosic bassoonist and composer Rebekah Heller makes genre-bending music, and is set to release her first solo EP of her own compositions in June of 2024 on Relative Pitch Records. Heller's work aims to expand the sonic possibilities of her instrument — both in her solo work and through a deep collaborative practice. Called "an impressive solo bassoonist" by The New Yorker, she has released two acclaimed solo albums of new music written for and with her by a diverse community of composers, and in 2018, Heller made her solo debut with the New York Philharmonic. Heller lives in NYC and has a robust free improvisation practice, as well as being a long-time member of the experimental music powerhouse, International Contemporary Ensemble.
Rebekah Heller creates genre-bending music, primarily rooted in contemporary classical and experimental jazz, often incorporating electroacoustic and avant-garde elements, as heard on her solo albums like Metafagote.
