About

Renée Elise Goldsberry is a Tony- and Grammy-winning actress and powerhouse vocalist known for her work on Broadway, TV, and now as a recording artist. With her debut album Who I Really Am, she opens a new chapter rooted in personal storytelling, musical range, and unfiltered truth. Goldsberry’s stage credits include originating Angelica Schuyler in Hamilton (Tony, Grammy, and Emmy nomination), as well as roles in Rent, The Lion King, and The Color Purple. On screen, she’s shined in Altered Carbon, Waves, and Girls5eva—earning a spot on Variety’s “100 Greatest TV Performances of the 21st Century.” Music, however, has always been central. “My music career in theater blessed me to sing some of the greatest songs ever written,” she says. “This is about sharing my own.” The title track sets the tone with brassy swagger and autobiographical bite. Written largely during 2020, the 13-track album features 11 songs penned by Goldsberry herself. Highlights include the bluesy single “Staring,” the soulful “Smiling,” and “Don’t Want to Love You,” written by Girls5eva co-star Sara Bareilles. She also reimagines Hamilton’s “Satisfied” in a stripped-down, guitar-led version that debuted live to mark the show’s 10th anniversary and quickly went viral. Sparked by a moment of reflection, Goldsberry says, “The trials and errors play just as big a role in who I am as the accolades.” Who I Really Am reveals the artist behind the acclaim, in her own voice.
