In 1961 Rinus Gerritsen starts a band with George Kooymans in The Hague (Holland). Golden Earring (1961-2021) scores their first hit with "Please Go", recorded in 1965 from their debut album "Just Ear-rings" (Polydor). Golden Earring tours Europe and North Amerca extensively. They achieved worldwide fame with the international hit songs "Back Home" in 1970, "Radar Love" in 1973, "Twilight Zone" in 1982, and "When the Lady Smiles" in 1984. The albums "Moontan", (RIAA, CRIA, NVPI certified gold) "LIVE", "Cut" and "N.E.W.S." became international best-sellers. Radar Love, with the signature Gerritsen bass intro, is considered by many to be the ultimate drivin' song. With Golden Earring, Gerritsen achieved nearly 50 Top-40 singles on the Dutch charts releasing 25 studio albums, earning them 30+ gold and platinum awards. In 1979 Gerritsen (bass, guitar, synthesizer/songwriting) releases his first solo album "Garrison and Van Dyke" (ATCO), in collaboration with vocalist Michael van Dijk (Alquin) and drummer Shell Schellekens. As a producer, Gerritsen works on albums for Dutch acts Herman Brood and Urban Heroes. Steve Harris (Iron Maiden) counts bassist Gerritsen as an important influence. Late 2025 Gerritsen starts releasing single tracks from his second solo album (Rinus' Garage). Every song comes with a podcast featuring a interview by Martin Kuipers with the collaborating musicians. (PO)
