Hailing from Flint, Rio first caught fire in the underground scene with his unfiltered bars and raw storytelling, quickly becoming a hometown hero. Breaking out alongside frequent collaborator RMC Mike, he helped spark a new era in Midwest street rap, known for its off-beat flows, dark humor, and razor-sharp realism. His buzz grew fast through viral freestyles, and standout mixtapes, building a cult following before ever signing a deal. But just as his star began to rise, Rio was sentenced to nearly 4 years in prison. Putting his career on pause, but not his momentum. While incarcerated, his music continued to spread, with tracks like “Legendary” eventually going Gold, then RIAA Platinum, a rare feat for an artist behind bars. In December of 2024 Rio returned from prison with a bang, his first single “RIO FREE” racked up over 1M views in a day. Now a certified Platinum artist and the first ever from Flint, Rio is collaborating with names like Lil Yachty, Lil Baby, Veeze, Rylo Rodriguez, Peezy, and more.
