An underground indie folk artist.
What Isidro Rubio loves most about making music is songwriting. After years in punk and rock’n’roll bands, he launched his solo project, SanIsidro. Working alone brought a new sense of freedom: in 2014, while living in Berlin, he borrowed an 8-track recorder and captured a batch of intimate demos. The result was “a lo pesau, a lo bajo y a lo llano”, his debut as SanIsidro, released in October 2020 via Slovenly Recordings. That collection laid the groundwork for a project without stylistic boundaries, opening the door to a broader sonic palette. In 2023, signed with La Castanya and released “SAMBORI”, an album of elegant mid-tempo songs meant for slow listening. Its rich instrumentation adds warmth and depth, setting it apart in an increasingly homogeneous musical landscape. Rubio’s background sheds light on the project’s scope. He began playing his father’s bongos and learning guitar from his mother. At 9, he joined his school’s traditional music group; by 14, he had formed his first punk band. Later, he played in 60s rock’n’roll, punk and garage outfits such as Wau y los Arrrghs!!!, touring Europe, USA and Australia. In 2026, SanIsidro opens a new chapter with “Lento aposta”, an album to step away from the crowd to gain space, intimacy, and time. Once again free from any preconceived formula, “Lento aposta” blends folk, psychedelia, and flamenco, with flavors traveling from the Mediterranean to the Caribbean, from the Sahel to Latin America.
SanIsidro plays an organic blend of indie folk, psychedelia, and Mediterranean-influenced alternative music released via labels like La Castanya.
The project draws on decades of experience in European garage rock and punk bands, pivoting toward intimate acoustic instrumentation and diverse global folk traditions.
