Selma Uamusse
Selma Uamusse is a Mozambican singer living in Portugal since 1988. Singing professionally since she's eighteen, with a path from gospel, to rock, soul, afrobeat and jazz, Selma decided to challenge herself and record her first original solo project between Portugal and Mozambique. Exploring her Mozambican roots, bringing the unkown rythms and lyrics in native tongues, together with traditional instruments like timbila and mbira, mixed with some psychedelia, electronics and all her other musical influences. Mati the debut album was produced by the precious and wise hands of Jori Collignon (from Skip & Die), Selma Uamusse’s first solo recoding can be heard as two simultaneous journeys happening at once – a geographical one to Mozambique, where she feeds herself from local sounds and addresses her identity issues; and an inner one, drawing a spiritual map that unfolds itself and gets under our skin. Every second of the way these songs hypnotize us, have us trapped between past and future, as they belong in equal parts to the ancestral and to the groundbreaking, and create a music that shall remain nameless. Or maybe it doesn’t have to be like that. Maybe we can just call it Selma Uamusse. A new album is coming, Liwoningo, with the fantastic production of brazilian Grammy Latino awarded Guilherme Kastrup and 2 singles have been released, " No Guns" and " Hoyo Hoyo".
