A polished, underground classical piano artist.
As “the pianist, who came in from the Cold” Sergey Tanin became well-known after the documentary about him was broadcasted by the Swiss television (SRF). The international career of Sergey started in 2018 at the Geza Anda Competition in Zürich/Switzerland: With his “…excellent, pure and honest piano playing, which reminds of the values of the great Russian piano school…” (Geza Anda Jury notes), he possesses a wide repertoire from Rameau and Bach, major composers of the classical and romantic era till contemporary music by leading figures such as Larcher and Ades. In tribute to Sergei Rachmaninoff’s 150 anniversary, Sergey performed the third piano concerto in Tonhalle Zürich in January 2023. In March, European channel 3Sat broadcasted the documentary “My Rachmaninoff” about Rachmaninoff´s time in Switzerland and his Villa Senar on Lake Lucerne, where Sergey plays the Six Moments Musicaux on the composer´s grand piano and speaks about his relation to Rachmaninoff´s life and work. Born in 1995 in Siberia/Yakutia, Sergey Tanin started to play the piano at the age of 5. At 11, he already played with the Moscow Symphony orchestra. His debut CD with works of Schubert-Liszt, Brahms and Prokofiev (Prospero Classical) was nominated for the International Classical Music Award (ICMA) in 2021 and was highly acclaimed by music critics. Sergey Tanin is based in Basel and co-founder of the festival musicaAndeer.
Sergey Tanin performs a wide classical piano repertoire spanning from Bach and Rameau to Romantic and contemporary works by composers like Prokofiev and Rachmaninoff.
