An underground, homegrown jazz beats act.
Asher Rosenfeld invited his college buddy, Alex Weiss (guitar), to jam with him and Dan Safdie (drums) after a brutal week of work. Recognizing the instant musical chemistry, Alex and Dan decided to make this a thing, sans Asher (musically, we mean—we still love him and he is still in the band spiritually). They soon brought Dan’s friend Sam Raudabaugh (bass), into the fold, and a band was born. Atop the roof of a wonderful shop called Shag in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, the band would throw epic parties late into the night, year after year. Spectators would come up from the street, others would dance from adjacent rooftops, and still one or two others may have called the cops. But nothing could stop the magic, and the band soon spread from the Shagshop Rooftop to the NYC bar scene and beyond: all the way to Woodstock NY and even Aruba. In 2025, Alex and Sam went to Bologna, Italy to see Radiohead, whereupon they met Harry Ehrman, also from Brooklyn, who has since joined the band on keys.
Shagshop Rooftop plays an eclectic blend of indie rock, jazz fusion, and upbeat jam band grooves rooted in the Brooklyn music scene.
