A nostalgic comedy artist.
A collaboration between comedy duo Ninja Sex Party -- formed by Leigh Daniel Avidan and Brian Wecht -- and animator and producer Egoraptor (Arin Hanson), Starbomb finds the two comedic entities joining forces to create nerdy synth-pop and parody tracks. Offering up R-rated songs about video games like Super Mario Brothers, Mega Man, and Sonic the Hedgehog, the group's sound is a frenetic mix of nostalgia and humor designed to hilariously shatter the veneer of innocence surrounding these classic characters. Starbomb trickled out snippets of songs throughout 2013 before finally releasing their self-titled debut that same year, landing them on the Billboard 200 and topping the Billboard Comedy and Heatseekers charts. Player Select arrived the next year, continuing in the same vein as its predecessor, adding Mortal Kombat, Pokemon, Metal Gear Solid, and Minecraft to the mix. The set landed in the top four on a trio of Billboard charts and was Starbomb's second straight number one on the Comedy list. The crew wouldn't return until 2019 with genre-spanning third LP, The TryForce, which took aim at Donkey Kong, Kingdom Hearts, Tetris, and Dark Souls. Graduating from the side charts, TryForce debuted on the Billboard 200 just outside the Top 20. ~ Gregory Heaney, Rovi
