Steam 03

Steam 03 is a Cape Town-based DJ and production duo formed by Matt McKenzie and Nicholas Wessels. Since launching the project at 18 years old in 2021, the pair have developed a reputation for their immersive sets and refined sound that blends their deeper house roots with techno textures. Their growing presence in South Africa’s underground circuit has seen them perform at some of the country’s most respected venues and festivals, sharing the stage with artists such as Dino Lenny, Catz n Dogz, and supporting Raxon during his Cape Town tour. Beyond the booth, they are also the curators behind ‘The Art Department’, a concept-driven festival series and ‘Revision’, a club night that has become a staple in Cape Town’s electronic music calendar. 2025 marks a pivotal moment in their production journey, with two upcoming releases signed to Obscura, the internationally acclaimed label run by Fedele (formerly of Agents of Time). This release positions Steam 03 firmly on the global radar, backed by a catalogue of unreleased work already supported by local and international artists. Their debut EP, Wild Love, dropped earlier this year on Guilty Pleasures, showcasing their ability to create warm, timeless club records with emotional depth. With more releases planned on large scale labels for the remainder of 2025 and a packed schedule ahead, they are cementing themselves as one of South Africa’s most promising young duos.
