The Barr Brothers are a family affair—but the ties go deeper than the bond between singer/guitarist Brad and his drumming brother Andrew. Since settling in Montreal in the mid-2000s, they’ve built a sound rooted in folk, blues, soul, and indie rock—marked by hypnotic textures and emotional depth. Their 2011 debut earned a JUNO nod and Polaris longlist mention, and their breakout album Sleeping Operator (certified Gold in 2023) featured the hit “Even the Darkness Has Arms” (110M+ streams). Their follow-up, Queen of the Breakers, expanded their sonic scope and won a second Félix Award. While quieter in recent years, both brothers stayed active with solo work and collaborations. They returned in 2024 on “Live That Way Forever” (from The Iron Claw soundtrack) and now reemerge with Let it Hiss—a raw, soulful return to their DIY roots that signals a bold new chapter.
