The Crybabys

Tracks5

This bluesy rock ‘n’ roll quartet from the UK was formed in 1990 by former Boys guitarist ‘Honest’ John Plain (b. 12 April 1952, Leeds, Yorkshire, England). Recruiting Darrell Bath (guitar/vocals), John Cooper (bass) and Robbie Rushton (drums), they signed with Receiver Records the same year. Drawing inspiration from Mott The Hoople, Hanoi Rocks and the Georgia Satellites, the Crybabys successfully bridged the gap between punk and rock ‘n’ roll. Shambolic, chaotic and full of stamina, they debuted with Where Have All The Good Girls Gone. Cooper was replaced by Mark Duncan for the recording of the follow-up What Kind Of Rock ‘N’ Roll?, but Receiver’s refusal to release the album hastened the untimely demise of the Crybabys. Their recordings compared favourably with the best that either the similarly inclined Dogs D’Amour (whom Bath later joined) or Quireboys produced in that period. Bath and Plain later played in Ian Hunter’s Dirty Laundry before briefly re-forming the Crybabys in 2002.
