The Du-Rites

The Du-Rites are an NYC-based instrumental funk combo of Jay Mumford on drums + keys and Pablo Martin on guitar, bass + keys. Prior to du-ing this, Jay was a hip-hop producer/artist and Pablo earned his stripes as a guitarist for the modern day line-up of Tom Tom Club and engineer. In 2013, the pair began jamming for fun after Jay learned to play drums during an extended hiatus from the music business. In 2016, Jay and Pablo decided to bring The Du-Rites to life and their eponymous debut album was released that year to unexpected praise. The duo quickly followed with a sophomore effort, Greasy Listening (2017); Gamma Ray Jones, a score to a lost 1972 TV detective show (2018); a live album, Soundcheck at 6 (2019); their pandemic tour de force, A Funky Bad Time (2020); the more abstract Pressure EP (2021); Plug It In (2022); Tenement (2026) and a slew of singles along the way. They scored the scene music and theme song for Bobbito Garcia's documentary, Rock Rubber 45s and are also the rhythm section on the song, which features jazz heavyweights Eddie Palmieri and Robert Glasper. Live, they've opened for The Skatalites and RJD2 and have collaborated with Beastie Boys keyboardist Money Mark and Sun Ra Arkestra percussionist Elson Nascimento. Individually, Jay and Pablo are touring and session musicians, playing live and in studio for the likes of Adrian Quesada, Belouis Some, Hermanos Gutierrez, Just Blaze, Danger Mouse and many more.
