An underground, raw riot grrrl act.
An all-female punk-rock band, the PinUps was brought to life in 2014 by its four founding members. The two Luddita MCs, Móki and Tita, joined the ranks in 2017 and infused the PinUps music with a heavy dose of hip-hop. The PinUps were “born” out of public demand following the enthusiastic public reception of a birthday bash video that featured some memorable air guitar skills. The band first covered a few of their favourite songs - initially “for friends only” - but quickly started writing their own songs and soon snapped up the two Luddita girls. Appearances at small private parties soon morphed into performances at larger, popular concerts, including gigs at Fishing on Orfű, the Sziget Festival and even club parties at Tel-Aviv Pride. They lay it all on the table, from Nanushka to Matushka, from broadened comfort zones to narrowed minds, from vaginal ultrasounds to the gay lobby. Their themes are feminist and female-oriented, and it’s quite a thrill to watch them play around with feminine gender roles, as they shake their asses and thrash in full make-up and sequined dresses. Brutal as a hailstorm, The PinUps is a dynamic and fun little band, best enjoyed in clubs with a few hundred people. Their music is equally well-suited to dancing, headbanging or even moshing until you drop. Their style melds the primeval power of classic rock, the simplicity of punk, and the glamour of 80s alt-rock with, just a sprinkling of hip-hop added to the mix. Touch me, touch me now!
The PinUps play an energetic blend of riot grrrl punk rock infused with hip-hop influences and alternative flair.
