The Toasters
A nostalgic, underground ska artist.
One of the first American ska bands, the Toasters did much to popularize the genre on the underground scene in the mid- to late '80s, laying the groundwork for later ska bands in the '90s. Singer Rob "Bucket" Hingley formed The Toasters in New York City in 1981. The Toasters released their first single, "Beat Up," in 1983. Hingley formed Moon Ska Records to release and promote global ska acts as well as The Toasters; Moon Ska closed in 2000. "Recriminations" was released in 1985 and produced by Joe Jackson as well as their next couple of full length albums. Skaboom! (1987), Thrill Me Up (1988) and This Gun for Hire (1990). The Toasters' lineup continued to shift through the '90s, guitarist/vocalist 'Buck / Bucket" is the only original member. The Toasters have continued to release albums throughout the decades, including New York Fever (1992), Dub 56 (1994), Hard Band For Dead (1996), D.L.T.B.G.Y.D. (1997), Enemy Of The System (2003), One More Bullet (2007) as well as various singles, compilations, and greatest hits released on Moon Ska Records until closing and on Megalith Records (https://megalithrecords.com) est. 2002. The ever-evolving Toasters lineup can be found touring the U.S., Europe, and other ska-hungry corners of the globe.
