The Underbites are a punk rock and roll quartet from New York City, fusing melodic riffs, smart lyrics, and a defiant energy that channels the spirit of their hometown. Formed just before the pandemic, the band emerged with a stripped-down sound that echoed the urgency of punk’s first wave—think the buzzsaw guitars of The Ramones, the politically charged POV of The Clash, and the ragged swagger of Johnny Thunders. But The Underbites aren’t just revivalists—they’re torchbearers with something (hopefully) fresh to say. Their debut EP, Persons of Interest (2020), introduced listeners to their no-nonsense approach: fast, loud, and catchy. Sort It Out (2022), their first full-length album, followed with bigger choruses, smarter arrangements, and lyrics and themes touching on all kinds of facets of modern day American life. In 2023, The Underbites released Four Songs About Girls, an EP that showcased their range—balancing humor, heartbreak, and hooks with a wink and a wall of sound. Their most recent release, Soapbox Agitprop (2024), represents a new high-water mark. Politically charged and musically expansive, the songs on the album don’t spoon-feed you what they’re trying to say, which leaves fertile ground for listeners to walk away with some much-needed new perspective. Production on the next album is underway. It’ll be the best yet and out in 2026.
