Trans Kabar

Founded by guitarist and composer Stéphane Hoareau, Trans Kabar offers an electric interpretation of the mystical rituals of Réunion Island, developing a unique trans maloya sound: a living encounter between tradition, improvisation, and raw energy. The project draws inspiration from the Servis Kabaré, festive ceremonies originating from slave rituals designed to commune with ancestors through singing, dancing, and music — rites often rejected or forbidden but which survived clandestinely and strongly fuel the band’s trance. Today, Somin fully capitalizes on this experience: the band welcomes David Doris on vocals and kayamb — a roots voice directly from the Réunion kabars — as well as Clémence Gaudin on double bass and Ianik Tallet on drums, alongside Stéphane Hoareau on guitar and artistic direction. Together, they sculpt a dense, collective music where biting electric guitars — influenced by noise rock and African motifs — intertwine with a rhythm section shaped by free jazz into a single living organism.
